Dental Crowns an Excellent Way to Preserve Your Natural Teeth

With the advancement in technology, modern dental restorations are designed to address a specific area of your tooth while leaving the rest intact. However, sometimes it’s best to encase your entire tooth to protect it from further damage. Dental crowns may be an age-old procedure, but modern versions are among the highly customizable options. Today, dental caps can be created from different materials to address multiple dental problems.

Want to restore your smile with lifelike dental restorations in Jackson, New Jersey? Please reserve an appointment with Aesthetic Dental Creations for dental crown services.

The Many Uses of Dental Crowns

While teeth are durable and made to last a lifetime, accidents and decay can happen, leaving you with a tooth that needs dental crown restoration. Dr. Balaji Srinivasan installs natural-looking crowns to strengthen your compromised tooth while giving it an aesthetic lift.

That’s not all. Dental crowns might be small, but they have numerous cosmetic and functional uses in dentistry. Your dentist may recommend dental crowns to:

  • aesthetically improve a severely stained tooth
  • protect a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment
  • complete the dental implant process
  • secure a dental bridge on the abutment teeth
  • replace an old filling or inlay
  • fill a cavity that’s too extensive for a typical filling

Dental crowns are used to restore the function of your smile, but that doesn’t mean we ignore the aesthetic side. We use lifelike materials like porcelain to design crowns that aren’t far from your natural teeth. Porcelain can reflect light like your natural enamel, allowing it to be color-matched with the shade of your teeth.

The Dental Crown Procedure

Your teeth may have been damaged for years, so treatment should be lengthy. You are mistaken. Restoring your smile with crowns only needs two dental appointments, spaced within a few weeks. The initial appointment is where most of the magic happens. After physically examining your tooth, we use digital X-rays to check the health of the surrounding bone. Once we give you the go-ahead for a dental crown, we start preparing your tooth.

Dr. Srinivasan administers a precise amount of anesthesia to make it a pain-free procedure. Then, we file and reshape your tooth to create space for a crown. If your tooth lacks an adequate structure to hold a crown, we use dental materials to rebuild it. After preparing your tooth, we take your bite impressions to help design your dental cap. Then, we send the images to our certified ceramist to custom-make your crown.

Your dental crown may take a few weeks to arrive. We will place a temporary dental cap during this period to protect your prepped tooth. Once your crown is ready, you will book another appointment for installation. Our dentist makes a few adjustments to the crown and bonds it permanently to your tooth using dental cement and a curing light.
