While “beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” and we most certainly take personal preferences into account, there are some universally coveted features of the smile. Porcelain veneers support many of those sought-after features by correcting a wide range of aesthetic imperfections. These “treatable” concerns include:

- Gaps between the teeth; for instance, diastema between the front two teeth

Porcelain veneers do not “treat” these and other problems in the way that restorative treatments such as Invisalign® do; for instance, Invisalign® is an orthodontic treatment that moves the teeth. So, they are correctly positioned and aligned. Instead, veneers are placed on the front surfaces of the teeth to cover up gaps or other spacing issues. Veneers do not actually reposition the teeth, just as they do not lighten stained or discolored teeth or smooth chips and jagged contours. They are placed on top of prepared natural teeth to camouflage conditions that detract from the appearance of your smile. Patients with restorative dental needs, or challenges to their oral health, may be appropriate candidates for orthodontic treatment or dental restorations such as fillings, inlays, onlays, and crowns to build up the tooth and resolve dental erosion or decay that threatens the structural integrity and health of the affected teeth.
Options
The process of getting veneers is straightforward but very technique-specific. The results from treatment are only as “good” (natural-looking and beautiful) as the skill and artistry of the person who designs, fabricates, and bonds them securely to the teeth. In that case, you are in great hands with Dr. Srinivasan, a dedicated and experienced cosmetic dentist.
Dental porcelain may be the preferred material of choice for veneers because it:
- Seamlessly imitates the appearance and properties of natural enamel
- Is strong and presents an excellent investment (because porcelain veneers last long with good hygiene)
- Is broadly resistant to staining
Before the veneers are placed, a small amount of enamel is removed from the tooth (or teeth) to be treated. This step allows the veneers to fit well and look natural once placed. We account for factors like the size of your face and teeth in your smile to ensure that veneers look right on your features. Only you and your smile are rejuvenated post-treatment! The actual fabrication of the veneers is based on impressions made of the teeth after enamel is removed and the natural tooth is “prepped.”
You may also be a great candidate for direct veneers, which are “prep-less,” use composite dental resin and can be placed in a single visit. Dr. Balaji Srinivasan is inspired by the passion and purpose he discovers in dentistry and strives to provide his clients with exceptional services. He graduated from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. He then attended Creighton University School of Dentistry in Omaha, Nebraska, and a residency program in Advanced General Dentistry at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In 1997, he established Madison Avenue Dental Associates, where he worked for ten years. He then established Aesthetic Dental Creations in Jackson, New Jersey, in 2008 and has not looked back since.
Dr. Srinivasan is an alumnus of the world-renowned Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Training. He has received specialized training in adhesive dentistry and smile design. Dr. Srinivasan is also very effective at treating migraine/headaches because of his expertise in neuromuscular(physiologic) dentistry.
